What Is Black Shabu?
Black shabu uses a soup that comes from Japanese sukiyaki. Traditional Japanese sukiyaki involves boiling meat and various vegetables together in a dark soup made with dried fish and many other seasonings. Once the vegetables are cooked and the soup is boiling, the meat is dipped in the soup to cook before eating, without any dipping sauce. In other words, traditional Japanese black shabu is eaten without dipping sauce.
